Why Lemons, Vinegar & Baking Soda are Excellent Natural Cleaning Products

Did you know there’s a natural, healthier way to keeping your office clean and free from toxins?

If you run a busy office or commercial premises, constant use of cleaners with high concentrations of chemical ingredients is not always the answer.

They are suitable for occasional deep cleans and scheduled cleans when staff are not present.

However, for everyday spills and clean ups that employees or visitors may cause, do not necessarily need the harsh chemicals associated with potential health hazards, allergies and ailments.

Thankfully, nature has given us some excellent natural cleaners that offer a healthier and hazard free alternative that every office should adopt for small clean up jobs.

  • cleaning a coffee machine of limescale build up, using a mix of 1 part vinegar and 1 part water
  • unblocking a drain, using a mix of 1 part vinegar and 1 part baking soda
  • remove mineral deposits from taps (and shower heads) using it neat
  • clean glass instead of using harsh Windex type products, using 1 part vinegar and 50 parts water
  • remove mould from walls and surfaces if sprayed neat and left to work for 15 minutes
  • clean spills from carpets and rugs, using a sprayed mix of 1 part vinegar and 1 part water and dab dry with a towel
  • remove residue left by stickers and decals, used neat

The fact is, white vinegar is an incredibly versatile liquid and every office and home should keep a bottle for a number of jobs.

Vinegar makes for an excellent disinfectant, as it can kill both salmonella and the e-coli bug.

Another essential product you must have in your cleaning arsenal is baking soda.

It is far more versatile than you think and isn’t just good for cleaning your oven pans and cook tops, its got so much more to offer than that!

As well as being completely non-toxic, it doesn’t have the strong smell associated with vinegar and can tackle tough stains on a variety of surfaces.

Keep some baking soda in your office. it will help clean up a variety of jobs including:

  • stained and discoloured tea cups and coffee mugs that get overuse at the office, using 1 part baking soda and 2 parts water
  • bad odours in food containers, jars and cans, using 1 part baking soda and 1 part water
  • tough stains, mould and dirt on work surfaces, using pure baking soda and a damp scouring pad
  • odours on upholstery such as sofas, reception chairs and office swivel seats, sprinkled neat and then vacuumed off
  • marks and stains on painted walls and surfaces, using 1 part baking soda and 1 part water
  • dirt from tiled floors, using 1 part baking soda and 15 parts water

As well as being completely non-toxic, Baking Soda can tackle tough stains on a variety of surfaces.

It may not have escaped your notice that lemons are a very common ingredient in a number of cleaning products and there’s a very good reason for that.

Due to their natural acidity, lemons make for a very good disinfectant and stain remover, not to mention make everything smell good!

The humble lemon is a must have in any office as it can tackle a number of cleaning jobs, not to mention make for a great addition to a cup of tea!

Here’s a few good reason why:

  • remove stains from food containers, jars and cans, using a good squeeze of lemon juice and some baking soda
  • cleans and sanitises the office microwave by placing a bowl of water with several slices of lemon for 45 seconds, making it easy to clean and smelly a lot more pleasant!
  • cleans and sanitises the office fridge simply by wiping the surface with lemon and baking soda
  • helps to prevent limescale build up on taps when used neat
  • cleans glass, using 1 part lemon juice and 20 parts water
  • remove stains from tile grout on backsplashes in the office kitchen area

Lemons make for a very good disinfectant and stain remover, not to mention make everything smell good!

So there you have it!

If you want to make clean up jobs safer, cheaper and more pleasant, make sure you store the holy trinity of natural cleaners and get a good supply of white vinegar, baking soda and lemons (or lemon juice) in your office.
